Once bitten, twice shy.

Why does life not go as you want? I know, I know, a realist like me should not ask this question. But every time the reality hits me right in the face. Smack!! I had to go to the dentist today after chipping a tooth. I thought it would be a normal filling. No big deal. But, Surprise!Surprise! I had to get a root canal done. This is not the 1st time, but it doesn't get any easier.It can even turn a brave soul like me into a coward. The dentist had to stop and give me a pep talk. When that didn't work she reprimanded me. Lady, if you had a high power drill in your mouth, which by the way could cut your tongue, would you be silent? No. Your imaginative mind would give you vivid and morbid thoughts, which is the opposite of help. After that, she tried the "little kid" approach, which basically, was saying "you are such a brave girl, yes you are". After that dialogue I put on a brave front and endured the pain.No way was I going to be treated like a 10 year old(even though my behavior was like one). If you thought my humiliation was over after that, think again!! My mother had to give a play-by-play account of the entire incident to my sister, who promptly took my case about being a hypocrite. In my defense, dear sister, it is the opposite of eating a candy, which is what landed me in the dentist chair in the first place. There are 2 more sittings left to this ordeal and from experience I know I'll be the quietest and bravest soul possible. Amen!
